Starting Over
Burt Reynolds is dead. So are many of my peers. I must have seen the movie Starting Over 8 times.
It might be time to waste time on my old blogs for a while. Blogs are a place to park thoughts and photos.
I saw this last night, on the FB page of an Atlanta designer who recently caught my attention.
The caption said, "...dining chairs painted a cream color, then, used a mushroom glaze on them to make the details pop.
A fun fabric in grey and citron yellow gives them a modern edge." I like this idea.

Screened Porch
Photo by Anthony James Construction - More sunroom photos from Houzz.
I like the grey furniture with the grey floor and yellow walls with white trim. Wavering between that and a copper color metal table.
Here's a narrow table. I found a metal table on Wayfair that I really like, except that it comes in bright colors. I think the Copper color might work.

Design Guidelines I Need to Know
1. The law of significant enclosure says that we feel enclosed when the vertical edge of a space is at least one-third the length of the horizontal space we’re inhabiting.
The example given was that an area 17 feet wide needs a hedge at least 6 feet tall.
2. Follow the Regulating Line, an imaginary line that connects and organizes the design. Regulating lines are subjective; it’s the designer who identifies and manipulates them to create the garden. Use of the regulating line, more than any other concept, separates professional from amateur design by identifying the geometry of the space.
3. Use the Golden Rectangle, in which the ratio of the short side to the long side is equal to the ratio of the long side to the sum of both sides (a/b = b/a+b). Numerically, the Golden Rectangle ratio is close to 1: 1.6. Five x 8 beds are an example.
4. Thomas Church dictated the rule for steps: twice the riser plus the tread should equal 26 inches. I can hardly wait to measure the steps where I am going.
5. Go Big. I'm afraid going big may not be feasible at my new place, but I'll go as big as I dare.
6. Plant Big to Small: trees, then shrubs, then perennials, then ground cover. I won't have many trees to plant, if any. Maybe big shrubs, then small shrubs.
7. Plant in masses. Thirty of one plant rather than 3 or 5.
8. The House is the most Important Part. Start at the house and work outward.
9. The building is made up of straight lines based on squares and rectangles. The area around the building should copy these shapes to link the house with the garden. The terraces, paths and planting beds should be designed using straight lines.
